Can I still cancel my booking after I have paid for it?

In case a booking already has been paid, an agreement is automatically created between the owner and renter. This also includes cancellation conditions that the owner and renter must comply with in principle. See Article "Cancellation" in the rental agreement document for more detailed information on guidelines and reimbursements.

If the owner wants to (partially) refund the renter as a friendly gesture, the booking can stay as it is (the owner will thus receive the his or her earnings at the end of the rental period). The amount that owner and renter agree to be refunded to the renter can be settled outside of the Gearbooker platform.

Follow these steps to cancel a paid booking

In case a booking already has been paid, a booking agreement is automatically created between the owner and renter. This also includes cancellation conditions that the owner and renter must comply with in principle. Download this agreement from your 'bookings' overview and click on 'view' to go to the rental agreement.

If the renter wishes to cancel after payment, this can be done under 'status' on the booking overview page. The renter will receive (part of) the rental amount back in the form of a coupon with rental credit, which can be used for a future booking (the coupon is valid for 1 year from the cancellation date).
The amount of rental credit is determined as follows:

  • Cancellation more than 30 days before the start date of the rental period: 98% of the booking amount

  • Cancellation between 30 and 8 days before the start date: 95% of the booking amount

  • Cancellation between 7 and 4 days before the start date: 85% of the booking amount

  • Cancellation between 3 and 1 days before the start date: 75% of the booking amount

  • Cancellation less than 1 day before the start date: 60% of the booking amount

In addition, the renter will receive the service fee back. However, if shipping was included, these shipping costs will not be refunded.

The part of the booking amount that is not refunded as rental credit will be transferred as a compensation to the owner.
